Second Life's Nyumba Rafiki Community Center (NRCC) announced that it will be sponsoring a weekly support group for residents who are living with HIV/AIDS. There is no cost to attend and meetings will be held each Thursday at 6:00pm at the Center's facilities at Holland (213, 148, 21). The agenda will alternate between being open to the public and only for HIV+ participants.
Center founder and owner Ricken Flow explained the mission of NRCC as creating, supporting and providing vital and timely resources and services for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Straight and Gay friendly communities of Second Life. "The Nyumba Rafiki (which means "house of friends") Community Center of Second Life is an open, public and visible safe space for individuals and organizations in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Gay friendly community," says Flow. "The Center provides referral services and information, networking opportunities and access to other GLBT-Supportive groups and businesses."
In addition to the support group, the Center offers referrals via an HIV Help Desk to individual counseling and resources via email and a certified HIV/AIDS counselor is available. Other Center activities include discussion groups and recreational activities. For more information about the Center, contact Ricken Flow in-world by IM.
