Style Icon 2.0: Lauren Conrad - English Version

Since Laguna Beach (the Mtv reality series inspired by OC) Lauren has been a big source of inspiration for me: she’s gone from being the typical California pretty girl to being a true style icon and a successful business woman.

Other than being one of my most important style icons, from my point of view Lauren is also a great role model for all those young women who aspire to have a carrier in the fashion world: not only she has been for years the main character of one of Mtv’s most successful shows “The Hills”, but also she was able to build and realize her career in the fashion industry. Nowadays, she works on two different fashion brands, Lauren Conrad Collection, which first show occurred non other than during LA fashion week, and the LC for Kohl’s line; both lines have had quite a great success: the first one is scheduled to be reintroduced during 2011, after a temporary stop due to the American economic recession, while the collaboration with Kohl’s is growing.

Lauren also tested herself with writing, creating a trilogy of partially biographical novels (yet only two have been released), LA Candy and Sweet Little Lies, which both have become bestsellers in the USA: she proved she’s quite a versatile woman who knows who to use her image.

In my opinion, this success she gained both in fashion and entertainment industry is due to the fact that she wasn’t afraid of making difficult choices in order to follow her own aspirations and goals, such as when she decided to leave “The Hills” to give a try to her career in fashion.

Much more kind than Kristin, more elegant than Heidi, more natural than Audrina and definitely more funny than Stephanie (no, they’re not random names, if you follow Mtv, then you know very well Lauren’s frenemies!), Lauren’s style fully mirrors these traits of her personality: I think her imagine is truly elegant and smart and also that the way she dresses has some strong European factors. As consequence of this European contamination, her style is determined by simple lines, almost total absence of excesses and frippery, few accessories well positioned and endless passion for Chanel purses!!

Her style is made up by basic items made more precious by details and accessories, but also colourful little dresses with never excessive textures and graphics.

The milestones of Lauren’s style are basically 5:

COLOURS: you can’t say what her favourite colours is, since she wears a different colour for every different occasion! Jennifer Aniston loves pale and sandy colours, Angelina Jolie definitely prefers black and grey, instead Lauren uses a wider range of colours from the palette: well, she’s lucky enough to look good in almost every colour!

LITTLE DRESSES: her daily look is made up by basic items such as denim jeans and tees, or shirts or blouses, otherwise for important occasions she choses above the knee long dresses which always have some peculiar details…

SMILE: Lauren has a wonderful smile that gives her a very sunny and reassuring image. In the States she has become not only a teen-agers’ icon but also a style icon mainly because she managed to maintain unchanged this allure of simplicity.

LONG LOCKS: OK, I must admit I naturally prefer blondes over brunettes! Long long locks are one of Lauren’s hallmarks, she styles them sometimes in hairdos, sometimes with a side braid, sometimes with soft big curls…anyway her hair always looks so perfect, it’s not fair!

ELEGANCE: she can wear shorts and top or she can wear a Valentino, I think Lauren owns the innate gift of elegance that only few women have. It may be due to the careful styling of her gowns and accessories, or to her always sunny and tidy appearance…anyway, I really like her and I think that this is an extraordinary gift in such a young woman.

Style Icon 2.0: Lauren Conrad.

Sin dai tempi di Laguna Beach (reality serial di Mtv America ispirato al telefilm OC) Lauren è stata per me una grande fonte di ispirazione: è passata dall’essere la tipica ragazza americana di buona famiglia al divenire un’icona di stile ed un’imprenditrice di successo.

Oltre ad essere una delle mie style icons più importanti, dal mio punto di vista Lauren rappresenta anche un grande esempio per tutte le giovani ragazze cha aspirano a fare carriera nel mondo della moda: non solo è stata per anni protagonista di “The Hills”, uno dei reality più seguiti di Mtv, ma ha saputo anche coltivare ed incentivare la sua carriera nella fashion industry arrivando a creare due diverse linee, la Lauren Conrad Collection, presentata addirittura durante la settimana della moda di LA, e la linea LC for Kohl’s, fashion brand molto diffuso negli Stati Uniti; entrambe le linee hanno riscosso un buon successo, la prima sarà ripresentata nel 2011 dopo una pausa a causa della recessione dell’economia americana, mentre la collaborazione con Kohl’s continua a gonfie vele.

Lauren ha saputo dilettarsi anche con la scrittura, dando vita ad una trilogia di romanzi in parte autobiografici, LA Candy e Sweet Little Lies, entrambi bestsellers negli Stati Uniti: ha provato quindi di essere piuttosto versatile e saper sfruttare attentamente la propria immagine.

Il successo che ha riscosso tanto nel campo della moda, quanto dell’entertainment, sono a mio parere dati dal fatto che Lauren ha saputo compiere delle scelte importanti per seguire le proprie aspirazioni ed i propri obiettivi, come ad esempio quando ha deciso di abbandonare lo show che la vedeva protagonista per cercare di far carriera nella moda.

Molto più educata di Kristin, molto più elegante di Heidi, molto più naturale di Audrina e decisamente più simpatica di Stephanie (non sono nomi buttati lì a caso, chi segue Mtv conosce le “frenemies” di Lauren!), lo stile di Lauren rispecchia appieno questi tratti del suo carattere: trovo che abbia un’immagine molto elegante e raffinata e che il suo modo di presentarsi e vestire abbia dei forti tratti europei. Frutto di questa contaminazione sono linee semplici, quasi totale assenza di fronzoli ed eccessi, pochi accessori ben studiati, passione smisurata per le borse Chanel!!

Ha uno stile fatto di capi basic solitamente impreziositi da dettagli ed accessori, vestiti molto colorati con texture e grafismi mai eccessivi.

I punti di forza dello stile di Lauren sono essenzialmente 5:

COLORI: non le si può attribuire un colore preferito, perchè in ogni apparizione propone outfit caratterizzati da colori sempre diversi! Se Jennifer Aniston preferisce i colori tenui e sabbiosi, Angelina Jolie opta decisamente per il nero ed i grigi, Lauren invece spazia molto sulla tavolozza: fortunata lei che sta bene con quasi tutte le tonalità!

VESTITINI: il look quotidiano di Lauren è caratterizzato da capi basic come jeans e t-shirt, camicie o bluse, mentre per le occasioni importanti opta per vestitini da sopra il ginocchio sempre molto particolari…

SORRISO: ha uno splendido sorrido che le conferisce un’immagine molto solare e rassicurante. Negli Stati Uniti è diventata non solo un idolo delle teen-agers ma anche un’icona di stile proprio perchè ha saputo mantenere viva questa allure di semplicità che da sempre la contraddistingue.

CAPELLI: Ok, devo ammettere che ho una indiscussa e naturale preferenza per le bionde! I capelli lunghi lunghi sono uno dei suoi tratti distintivi, a volte raccolti, altre sciolti con il ciuffo raccolto in una treccia laterale (che adoro!!), altre ancora ricci sulle punte, sembrano sempre così in ordine, accidenti!

ELEGANZA: tanto che indossi shorts e top, quanto che indossi un Valentino, trovo che Lauren abbia quella dote innata dell’eleganza che solo poche donne possiedono. Sarà la scelta sempre attenta degli abiti e degli accessori, sarà il suo modo di proporsi, sarà il suo modo di apparire sempre così solare ed al contempo ordinata…mi piace molto e trovo che per una ragazza così giovane sia davvero un tratto eccezionale.

Snooki Style from Jersey Shore, bitches!!!!

Ok, è arrivato il momento di condividere con voi una delle mie ultime ossessioni…Jersey Shore!!! l’ultima serie di Mtv USA! Per chi non conosce il genere, si tratta di uno dei classici “reality” di Mtv ambientato sulla costa est degli Stati Uniti, dove 8 ragazzi e ragazze italo-americani sconosciuti convivono, lavorano, ma soprattutto si divertono come pazzi durante l’estate…Da quanto ho capito, Jersey Shore è l’equivalente di Riccione o quasi…

Cosa accomuna i protagonisti?? Hanno tutti origini italiane, chi più chi meno: i ragazzi sono i tipici “guidos”, ovvero tamarri iper-palestrati, super-abbronzati, ultra-logati e donnaioli all’ennesima potenza; le ragazze si autodefiniscono “guidette”, ovvero ragazze dallo spirito mediterraneo, belle, more e a caccia del perfetto “guido” con il quale metter su famiglia.

Come se non bastasse, ognuno dei protagonisti è un caso più unico che raro…ed il mio caso preferito (al limite dell’ossessione!) è lei, Snooki!!! La adoro alla follia!!!!!!!

“Tres petit”, mora, abbronzatura decisa, manicure perfetta, “cofana” per ingannare l’altezza, ha uno stile piuttosto particolare che mixa abitini strizzati a felpe colorate, cappellino stile Ed Hardy a borse con giga-loghi…a mio parere non è proprio un esempio classico di stile e raffinatezza, però è simpatica e divertente alla follia! Ha un’immagine molto colorata e sopra le righe, ed il suo modo di vestire rispecchia appieno questa sua caratteristica.

Vi propongo alcuni spunti per ispirarvi allo stile colorato ed eccessivo di Snooki!

Ok, it’s time for me to share with you one of my latest obsessions…Jersey Shore!!! the latest Mtv USA reality! For those of you who don’t know about it, it’s one of the typical Mtv reality series located on the East coast, where 8 Italian-American boys and girls share the same house, work and basically have a blast during Summer…

What do they have in common?? They all have Italian origins, someone more than others: boys are the typical “guidos”, trashy boys who love going to the gym daily, fake tan, big logos and having a different girl every night; girls are called “giudettes”, Mediterranean girls, pretty, black-haired, hunting for the perfect “guido” to start a family with.

That’s not enough, since every person is quite unique in her own weird style…and my favourite unique example of them (it’s an obsession I should say) is Snooki!!! I truly adore her!!!!!!!!

“Tres petit”, black-haired, definitely tanned, perfect manicure, coffin to trick her short height, she has a quite peculiar style, mixing extra tiny dresses with colourful hoodies, Ed Hardy caps with big-logo bags…in my opinion, she’s not quite the classic inspirational style girl, but she’s really nice and funny to death! She has a really colourful and outrageous image, and her style truly mirrors this aspect of her personality.

I’m suggesting you a couple inspirations from Snooki’s colourful and excessive style!

There’s so much we can learn from the past...

Prima di introdurVi il nuovo post, volevo ringraziarVi per i commenti molto carini avete dedicato alle mie foto “polarized” del post precedente!! Mi ha reso davvero felice constatare che avete apprezzato il mio sforzo di essere originale ed ironica anche senza il supporto di una location importante e di un outfit degno di questo nome! Grazie davvero…

Vi propongo alcuni esempi eccezionali di stile ed eleganza che ho rinvenuto sfogliando un vecchio Marie Claire del 2004…Tom Ford per Gucci mi ha lasciata senza parole ancora una volta, Bottega Veneta e i suoi pellami, Blumarine con la sua aurea di magia, Prada e la sua infinita eleganza, Missoni ed i suoi inconfondibili colori…tutto perfetto ed al contempo molto attuale.

Here are a few extraordinary examples of great style and elegance that I found looking through an old MarieClaire from 2004…Tom Ford for Gucci took my breath away once again, Bottega Veneta and its leather, Blumarine and its magical aurea, Prada and her timeless elegance, Missoni and her unique colours…everything is perfect also for nowadays.

In my mind: Kate Perry vs. Versace

Ammetto di non essere una grande fan di Kate Perry, ma senz’altro la ragazza ha uno stile piuttosto interessante…Tanto nelle occasioni formali ed ufficiali, quanto in quelle più casalinghe, propone sempre outfits molto colorati che strizzano l’occhio agli ultimi trend di stagione.

Ciò che non condivido sono le mise che sfoggia sul palco, un po’ eccessive per i miei gusti, ma del resto il suo personaggio è anche questo, è divenuta famosa indossando hot pants e balconcini!!

Io la vedo molto donna anni ’50, mora, formosa e decisamente bella, mi ricorda molto le donne Versace in versione mora…

I must admit I’m not a big fan of Kate Perry, but the girl definitely has a quite interesting style… Both in formal occasions and more domestic ones, she wears truly colourful outfits that follow the mayor fashion trends.

I don’t like her stage outfits, a little too excessive for my taste, but well, it’s part of her public character since she became famous wearing hot pants and sexy bras!!

In my mind, she reminds me of the woman from the ‘50s, black haired, big curves and so beautiful…also, she reminds me a black haired version of the Versace woman…

Sorry...Sun is winning over me...

Questo caldo sta avendo la meglio sulla mia salute!!!!! Purtroppo ho poco tempo da dedicare alle foto, e mi dispiace ammettere che questa temperatura semi-africana mi fa passare la voglia di mettermi in posa…perdonate la mia pigrizia!

Spero abbiate apprezzato l’idea del post ispirato alle mie style icons: mi sono molto divertita a tentare di creare due outfit che richiamassero il gusto di Victoria e che potessero essere d’ispirazione anche per chi non può permettersi di possedere 10 Birkin diverse nell’armadio!

In assenza di outfit da proporvi, vi regalo due immagini decisamente estive che ho ritrovato sfogliando un vecchio Glamour, Giugno. 2003 per la precisione…Tutto ciò che mi fanno venire in mente è sole, coca-cola ghiacciata e bagni in piscina!!!!

Sabato si avvicina! E’ ormai ora di fare programmi…

This heat is definitely winning over me!!!!! Unfortunatly I have little time to dedicate to shooting, and I’m really sorry to admit that this semi-African temperature truly kills my will to pose…please, forgive me for being lazy!

I hope you appreciated the idea of a post inspired to my style icons: I had a great time trying to create two Victoria inspired outfits that could be inspirational also for those who can’t afford having 10 different Birkins in the closet!

Since the lack of outfits, I’m giving you two pics I found out reading an old Glamour Italia, June. 2003…All they remind me is sun, iced Coke and baths in the pool!!!!

Saturday is so close! It’s almost time to make plans…
