It’s been my experience that most residents of Second Life are decent people, respecting of others. But once in a while I come across a jerk. It’s most often in the form of some anonymous grief-and-run cube attack. But once in a while with friends, I come across one face to face.
And sometimes, me and my friends are able to yank the rug out from under the troll.
Recently, me and a few friends, mostly other furred avatars, were having a talk about things. As usual people with normal human looks walked by, some saying a friendly hello. But one was anything but, "Hello freaks." Some of us snapped back, “What? How dare you call us that you ...”
Others made an effort at sarcasm, "Do you always greet others that way?" He occasionally acted like he did, asking if he could sit down with us after he had brazenly insulted us
The troll went on with his insults, and I thought about what to do. I had an avatar with an attack option that technically would not be a violation of the area's no weapon policy. But I wanted to beat him by making him look like the fool he was.
He left an opening when he put a group title over his head, "FREESEX."
"And you call US freaks?" But it didn't faze him. We talked about putting him on ignore, but some felt they shouldn't have to.
With friends being treated that way, ladies included, I was thinking that it was time to stop searching for a funny comeback and just go ahead and beat him up. But another buddy made his move before I did, going up to the troll, and doing that "monkey hump" animation with a recording of that Herbal Essence shampoo line , "YES! YES! YES!"
"Okay pal, you've had your free sex."
And the rest of us burst out laughing, in my case, doing the laugh animation over and over again. For some time, he just stood there. I laughed, "He's not moving, I think he enjoyed it! :D" A few moments later, he finally 'ported away.
I don't think I could ever get myself to pull off something like that. But risque humor or not, it's good my buddy did. Humiliation is a much better deterrent for "freaks" like that than violence
