New Management 14-17. October 2010
Iceland Music Export (IMX) has today made a five year agreement with Icelandair regarding Iceland Airwaves. IMX has also made an agreement with Mr Destiny who is the former promoter of the festival about taking over their role in running the festival. The two main sponsors of Iceland Airwaves are Icelandair and The City of Reykjavik.
Birkir Hólm Guðnason MD of Icelandair says: “This agreement confirms Icelandair’s vision that new Icelandic music is amongst the best promotion Iceland offers. “Music travels across borders, connects Iceland with different cultural societies and raises awareness of the country as an exciting destination.”
Svanhildur Konráðsdóttir, head of Culture and Tourism in Reykjavík welcomes the agreement saying that Iceland Airwaves has been instrumental in introducing Reykjavik as a vibrant city of music. "The city has for years been a committed supporter of Iceland Airwaves which we value as one of the most important festivals in Reykjavík's cultural calendar."
“IMX is a marketing and business office for Icelandic music. Iceland Airwaves has been one of the best platforms to introduce Icelandic music to the world for years so the interest of the festival and IMX go hand in hand. IMX has a good relationship with the former promoter and will build on the strength of the reputation they have created around Iceland Airwaves,” says Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdóttir, MD of IMX.
