What do you think of this business I read about the other day, of people being able to adopt a kid here in SL? I reckon its a bit wierd myself. Why would you want to lumber yourself with that sort of responsibility in a game like this?

Not having a maternal bone in my body (well not many) and always having thought that the only way I would have a child is if someone left a baby in a basket on my doorstep, I must say that, like you, I did pause for a moment and think, "Mmmmmm ... adopt a child? Would I like to do that?"
Then my Latin lover offered me another glass of champagne and I thought, "Well ... maybe not today!" lol
ALTHOUGH ... I do like to keep my options open. If there is a little tyke, all alone in the world, itching for a mother like me, I could very well be tempted. (Just leave the baby on the couch in my office at SL Newspaper!)
HOWEVER, I've got to say, I do find it just a little "irky" that an adult would want to pretend to be a two year old (my preferred age for a child IF I was going to have one).
STILL ... "walk a mile in my shoes" they do say.
