Susan Boyle Will Sing for Pope

Susan Boyle has been asked to sing for the Pope during his visit to Scotland. According to news, she  will perform as part of the pontiff's open air celebration of mass in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park on September 16.

She told the Daily Record newspaper the invitation to sing before Benedict XVI was ''my greatest dream come true''. She also said that to sing for the Pope is a great honour and something she have always dreamed of.

Susan Boyle, 49-year-old, from Blackburn in West Lothian, is expected to perform three songs, including her hit single  I Dreamed A Dream, which brought her to fame on Britain's Got Talent.

The singer is to perform three times at Bellahouston Park, as well as singing with the 800 strong choir. She will sing the hymn How Great Thou Art and will also sing a farewell song to Pope Benedict as he leaves the park to travel to Glasgow Airport for his flight to London and the continuation of his four day British visit.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien, President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland said: ''I am delighted that Susan will be able to perform for the Pope, I think it is wonderful that she will have this once in a lifetime opportunity and as her Bishop I am hugely proud of her.''

Michelle McManus, the Pop Idol winner, is also to sing for the Pope during the service. The Hour presenter will sing a song written by her cousin Michael as part of the pre-mass entertainment programme. The capacity for the event is 100,000 and around 66,000 people so far confirmed they want to come.

The Pope's visit to Scotland could be disrupted by a day of strikes by council workers in an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions.  Pope Benedict XVI will visit between September 16 and 19. It will be the first Papal visit to Britain since 1982, when Pope John Paul II's six-day tour drew huge crowds. It will also be the first official Papal visit to Britain. The 1982 trip was a pastoral one.

During his visit the Pope will be received by the Queen, who is supreme governor of the Church of England, and the Duke of Edinburgh at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on September 16.
